I believe that one of our greatest task is to conquer the mind….. You know those thoughts of fear, worry and low self-worth that have a tendency to creep in.
Some days being positive and forward thinking is a breeze; but, other days Great effort and energy is spent on striving to accomplish this goal ….. a mind that focuses completely on thoughts that bring life and power.
One may become weary trying to accomplish this alone and discouragement can easily step in. To give me support, I often look for mentors to model my efforts after. And in my search I find that although there are many great examples, there are non greater then the Savior Jesus Christ and the Prophets who have followed him.
One that comes to my mind is Elisha, the ancient Prophet. He was given at a crucial time the exact words to utter which spoke faith and peace to a fearful youth, who facing battle had become aware of the enemy and the nearness of death.
These words of strength are, “Fear not, for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.”
After speaking these words Elisha asked the Lord to open the youths eyes, giving this youth the opportunity to see that the mountains were filled with “horses and chariots of fire”. An experience that testifies and gives understanding, that by asking for God’s help and assistance coupled with our righteous efforts, we will never stand alone against the enemy.
Just the other day, I heard a young man speak of his experience while being in the service of God, and the impact of wearing the name of Jesus Christ on his chest in the form of a name tag for two years had on him.
Instantly my mind pondered these thoughts….”is that not what we all are striving to do each and every day! Wear His name and possibly be the difference that might be needed in someone else life?”
I believe that through this resolve, enemies around, and within, are conquered; opening up possibilities for great things to be accomplished.
*Today’s Challenge: Recognize what path your thoughts are taking. Choose words of faith and strong intent. Give your best effort and then turn to God to make it amazingly wonderful. Let your thoughts be centered and focused more on what He can do with your efforts then the inadequacies that you are feeling.
Today’s affirmation: “God’s thoughts guide my thoughts.”
