Are you the type of person who likes things to stay the same because you dread change. You like consistency and agree with the statement that “no news is good news”. It is not that you don’t like exciting events, but you are also just as happy to hit that peaceful status-quo where everything stays the same.
There is a part of that in all of us, the thought and feeling that you can maintain life and avoid change. However, this is only an illusion. Change is a daily constant, just as breathing is for life. You may not see the change happening minute by minute, but it is happening. Have you ever stopped to consider what this lack of awareness my actually be costing you?
The belief that what is at this moment will always be the same tomorrow is a false belief. There is constant change. Think about it. Let me give a simple example. I have in my home the “special” room. You know, the room that no one ever goes into. The one you keep the kids out so that it will stay in a state of pristine perfection for when unexpected guests come to the door….yes, that one. You may think it stays the same, and at a quick glance it does look the same; but take a closer look, dust and uninvited cob webs have begun to infiltrate this place of serene existence. Even something that is hands off and never used, will change from its original state.
So it’s a fact of life, we live in constant change. We are able to have control over some changes, and yet other forms of change we have none. For instance, aging, you will never stop the process until you leave this planet; but your response to and attitude towards, you have complete control over. So it is with everything in this life….your relationships, your health, your very existence.
Change is simply being able to see the reality of what is going on around and in your life. To recognize what is real. Change follows a process much like the seasons. There is the
- discovery and creating of the new,
- full complete enjoyment of the experience,
- the regrets and letting go,
- and the resolve of pure true understanding.
To follow this process to complete fulfillment allows for a energetically, positive, prosperous existence. Whereas, refusal to acknowledge the change by getting stopped or hung-up spiritually, mentally, emotionally, or physically in anyone spot, stagnates the process, and the change which you chose to be ignorant to begins to go stale and foul until you awaken to its shocking appearance.
Everyday is new….a chance to change and create. The possibilities are endless; however, before you can create the New, there must be a closure, a finishing and clearing out of the old. When a person forgets that change is always happening, with or without them, the choice to resist looking at change square in the face is tempting, and a trap that is easy to fall into. We fear what we perceive to be painful. We find it easier to hold on to what we think we have, no matter how broken for fear that if we flow with change we will be left with nothing at all.
Like a warm security blanket, we find it easier to hold tightly to what is familiar, the comfort of clinging to uncertainty and staying in what appears to be the “same place”. When attention is not given to the possibility of improvement, of growth and development, one experiences regression. And what you choose to see as, standing on familiar ground is actually a process of loss that will cost you dearly.
Let me share a personal example. Sitting at a desk for long hours each day has put a toll on the body physically, and now that I am aging the sporadic forms of exercise are not easily maintaining my desire body shape. My eyes do not see the gradual changing because of the picture that my mind has been holding. This is a picture of youth and vitality from many moons ago. Then one day months later I am shocked at the image that stare back at me. The two no longer match.
You create a mental image that becomes frozen in time, however change continues to happen until one day you have a jolting awakening. What you thought once was is no longer. This process is repeated over and over in every aspect of our lives.
Nothing, let me repeat, Nothing ever stays the same – that is the process of life. Everyday there is a cost, a price being paid for refusal to see what is real. You may picture your health as staying the same, you may think your relationships are coasting along nicely; but because everything is in constant change, the refusal to give positive attention and nurture to the natural flow of life, will result in stagnation and eventually un-repairable deterioration.
So I ask you… What is your lack of attention and refusal to work with the change in your life, costing you?
Change is not always about getting rid of and replacing; you know, the throw-out the old and bring in the new concept. Change is also about acceptance and allowing. Change is the ability to find a sense of Resolve and feeling of peace. Resolve is the letting-go of the regrets, the “what ifs?”, and the “I should have”. The moment you decide to release those nagging regrets, is the very moment that the hope of Resolve is allowed to emerge.
Resolve is the ability to find something good, no matter how small, out of a negative situation. Each experience in life has the ability to produce a golden nugget or simple treasure that enriches our life simply from having gone through the experience.
One may say, “I will never let this go….I was hurt too deeply.” This state of mind will not allow healing to take place. We do not have to “like” or “agree” with what has happened; but if given a chance to find resolve, each experience can and will render a deeper level of wisdom that blesses our life and opens a door for gaining greater understanding of what others have gone through, or may go through.
Resolve is willing to flow with change in the attempt to find true Understanding.
When I began to realize the cost of ignoring the reality of change, I made a commitment to work with change in every positive way I could. I determine which thoughts and ideas I will allow to become real for me and energize those that will bring the most positive results. I have learned to understand and appreciate my process of gathering information, the unique way that God designed my intelligence, a creation of teamwork at its best.
We are not one-celled entities, but rather, we are a culmination of many parts which together create the whole. An incredible, multi-faceted orchestra of sounds and rhythms, where each section collaborates, striving to perform and play its part in harmony. When we focus in on a particular strength labeling ourselves in one fashion or another, we begin to fight against our natural flow to process information and work through problems. But when we access the potential of using all of our strengths simultaneously we create an internal glow from each section of co-operative teamwork.
