I have heard it said that for anyone to succeed in business they have to be willing to be embarrassed. What?! Are you kidding me? Think of all those times in high school that you thought you were going to “die”. Or hated to show your face again because you were embarrassed. Let me shoot it to you straight…I DO NOT like to be embarrassed….do You?
As luck would have it, yesterday presented an embarrassing moment for me. So now according to this theory, I guess I am going to be successful. Yes I know, we all make mistakes….but not in front of those who actually own the business. Why not in front of any one of their hundred employees? Not the Big DOGS… Talk about embarrassing, especially for one who always strives to be their best.
Yes, I know your asking.. “What did she do?” And if I took the time to share the details, many would reply, “That is NOT that big of a deal”. But for me who takes my professionalism seriously…it was a big deal.
What did I learn? As much as we like to be perfect and top quality in what we do….It’s not going to happen on this planet. Perfectionism is not Real. What is “real”? A person who comes from their heart, who cares for others and strives to Be their best.
You know, that person who is open and confident enough to “step out” of themselves and take a good look at each event saying…. “where can I make a change for the better?” Someone who doesn’t stop at “good”, but rather someone who is willing to go the extra mile to be, and make that day of events, the BEST yet !
That is when perfection is in The Works. Why? Because at those moments of willingness, when one chooses to be Real rather than to impress; that is the moment when they become an instrument God intended for Positive Change.
