I use to claim that I was a visual learner. That was until I realized, that I had for many years been shutting down my first, and most natural way, of picking up signals and gathering information around me.
You are probably saying, “What on earth are you talking about? Information gathering? Picking up signals? Learning Styles?
This is the way that each of us gather and input information into our mind. You know, the best way for a each student to understand and learn what is being taught.
There are seven learning styles…Intrapersonal, Visual/Spacial, Linguistic, Music/Feeling, Interpersonal, Kinesthetic, and Logical/Math.
I always told everyone that that I was Visual/Spacial. I felt this way because, if you showed me “how” to do something, I could do it from then on. But I had to see it. It has only been the last 4 years as I have been creating my programs and working with clients, that my mind opened up and I began to realize that Visual was not my first and primary way of gathering information.
My sensitive nature
picks up information though feeling what is going on around me or with someone. Many of you know what I mean. People call it intuitive, sensitive, empathetic, or maybe clairvoyant. Although I personally do not care for the last description, clairvoyant, because of all the negative images that people have connected to it.
Feeling other peoples emotional energy, attitudes, fears, etc. can be extremely overwhelming, especially for a yellow personality type like myself. Therefore, I understand why I chose sometime during my growing up years to shut down my #1 learning style.
Rather than deal with all the the emotions, I unconsciously chose to block or shut out this ability, my gift of learning. To skip right over #1 and move right on to my 2nd learning style, which is Visual/Spacial. Do this made learning new things more of a challenge, but I adapted, not realizing that I would be missing parts that would make learning much easier.
Never heard of Learning Styles
For those of you who have never heard about learning styles and have no idea what I am talking about, let me quickly explain. We all have the same Intelligence, meaning the seven that I listen above. I have been told that these are sections, areas in our brain which start at the front (the frontal cortex) and move toward the back of our head.
Although we each have exactly the same set of seven, we are all very unique and different. How could that be? Well, think about the differences in males and females. Both were created with the same chromosomes, except for one pair. And it is that one pair that creates all the differences.
The same is true for our intelligence. Two people may gather information in the exact same order, meaning they may process using the Music/Feeling first, Visual second and each of the remaining seven in the exact same order. But Doctors have said, what makes each of us unique is the percentage (or length of time) we stay in the learning style and the order in which we use them.
So even if I use one intelligence (a split second) 1% more than the other person, our style of learning and gathering information is completely and uniquely different. No two of us are alike, nor will be, because the combination of order is endless. Wow, mind blowing.
Out of Sync with our perfect order
At times we can get out of sync with our perfect order. Or like myself, block an area and totally skip a very important piece. Does that do any harm? Well, not if you are ok with feeling confused, at of sorts, or running in circles. That foggy feeling often comes when we step out of sync.
Also, our feelings can be magnified or stay on “continuous play” similar to a recording of music that has gotten stuck, repeating the same idea over and over and over. This repetition is what creates stress and leads to a break down on the physical level, creating what we call illness.
Research is now showing, “that around 87% of illness can be attributed to our thought life, and approximately 13% to diet, genetics and environment” as said by Dr. Caroline Leaf in her book, Who Switched Off My Brain?
All thoughts create a vibration,
a frequency that flows through our mind releasing chemicals which interact with our body. Many of these thoughts can become toxic. The out-pour of certain chemicals will create a domino effect, a breaking down of the bodies perfect rhythmic balance that sustains health.
So, is it the thought, or the energy created from that thought, that creates the problem? A thought is ONLY a thought until you accept it for truth and begin to create an emotional duplication of it. I call these thought energies. One might say that the thought has now come alive and can either nourish and feed the soul or begin to strangle, shutting down ones abilities to flourish.
Here is a simple example of a Thought Energy that you may have felt.
Think of a time when you experienced the feeling of your throat shutting or closing down. Or perhaps you began to cough for no apparent reason. Ever wondered why all of a sudden this tightening of the throat? Well, this area of the body is associated with the ability to express ones self, to speak out and to communicate effectively. This is also where all forms of judgments are held.
A situation may happen, or a memory may return, creating the feeling or emotion of disrespect, “can’t speak up for myself”, or even thoughts that trigger back into different memories and forms of regret.
When someone loses their ability to trust a person or begin to form disbelief in themselves, or someone else, this thought energy gathers and is stored in the throat area. Unaware that we are even holding such energetic thoughts, we go throughout our day stuffing, ignoring and attempting to hold it back.
We may think we are being humble, or kind, by avoiding certain situations; but soon all of these buried emotions create havoc on our body’s ability to function. Maintaining the intricate balance is jeopardized and we become unstable, unable to manage the load of stress. We are now thrown into some type of illness or physical reaction.
Keeping ourselves in check and balance becomes a daily observation if one desires to live fully enjoying a healthy life.
